Abstract
My paper will argue that Raymond Williams's concept of culture as a realized signifying system provides a means to understand everyday life as a site of signification and power without having to decide between seeing it as a realm of 'organised passivity' (Henri Lefebvre) or 'tactics' of resistance (Michel de Certeau).
