Crafted Computation

Rennie, Colin (2015) Crafted Computation. In: New Technologies in Practice, 22-24 Oct 2015, Urban Glass. (Unpublished)

Item Type: Conference or Workshop Item (Lecture)

Abstract

The presentation focuses on the relationship between the changing pedagogical approaches to craft practices in light of the rapid development of digital tools for design and manufacture. A parallel can be drawn between the craft of making and the craft of mathematics and geometry that underpin the digital design and manufacturing process. A call can be made for a need to apply theoretical mathematical and computational learning to more practical means, through engaging with materials, clay and glass in innovative ways and applying learning in geometry and algorithm to the making of art objects new approaches to integrated learning can be found.
