Abstract

Pallant House Gallery is one of Britain’s most distinctive modern art museums. Located in the centre of Georgian Chichester it is a unique combination of a Grade I listed Queen Anne townhouse with elegant domestic interiors and a contemporary extension. Here historic and modern sit side-by-side in a conversation across the centuries.

The Gallery houses a world-class collection of Modern British art, together with international, contemporary and historic works, and an exciting programme of critically acclaimed exhibitions. Often described as a ‘collection of collections’ the Gallery’s permanent collection is formed from a small number of significant gifts and bequests from generous individuals and so tells a story of collecting as well as the wider history of Modern British Art.

The illustrated guide provides an introduction to the Gallery and its history, architecture and collections, and the stories of the people behind it.
