Every Day the River
Sarah Dobbs

every day the river

every day the river brown, docks talking, men with dogs ganning past the Glass Centre.

every day the river with flashes of light, the docks talking, machine to concrete, men walking past the Glass Centre, are ya alreet

every day the river skin, now furred with light breeze, seagulls shriek, its brine-stuffing-scent, clatter hammer crash of cars and industry, a dog’s tail vanishes

every day a boat on the river, its tip curved like elf shoes, a man on the elf-shoe boat with rounded shoulders who straightens and by chance finds me. Are ya alreet, pet?
