Abstract

Monoclonal antibody (mAb)-based therapies are highly specific and effective for a particular antigen. This unique characteristic feature of the mAb makes them ideal candidates for various applications not limited to oncology and immune diseases but also asthma, inflammatory diseases, infections, migraine as well as hematology and eye diseases. Moreover, mAbs have been applied in new areas including dentistry, tackling COVID-19 (SARS-CoV-2) pandemic and in July 30, 2021, nifrolumab-fnia has been granted FDA approval for the treatment of adult patients with moderate to severe systemic lupus erythematosus. Before then and on June 7, 2021, the FDA approved aducanumab for the treatment of Alzheimer disease.

Accordingly, this chapter will cover the application and clinical uses of mAbs with examples for market products. Also, it will cover the current market of mAbs and their market in the future based on both the clinical trials of mAbs formulations and new areas for application of the mAbs.
