Abstract
This chapter examines ceramics and glass in the context of rising industrialisation associated with the period from the late eighteenth-century. Industrialisation resulted in various craft revivals, which also embraced ceramics and glass. In the case of these areas, the situation is more complex, due to many aspects of ceramic and glass production still be reliant on hand-skills.
The chapter is for a book entitled The Cultural History of Craft, in six volumes, published by Bloomsbury, and will appear in Volume 5, Craft in the Age of Industry.
