Abstract
This paper offers a view of creative glass research at the ‘overlap’ of two distinct sectors of art and design: glassmaking and printmaking. It also aims to show how an approach of ‘blending’ subjects in art and design education might serve as a catalyst and context for innovation and creativity. Three case studies demonstrate how this merging has offered new forms of expression for artists that others might build upon. The examples show how innovation has been achieved through an approach which regards creative glass, as a material and a set of processes, as analogous to methods of printmaking. This paper offers ‘real world’ examples of research projects in glass that can be described as ‘blending’ approaches from art and design
