Abstract
Canine Scent Detection training has taken the form of a master/apprentice approach for many years, whereby the training principles have been based upon the transference of knowledge by word of mouth, from senior to junior. This training is by no means homogenous, as many different trainers use only their preferred techniques which they pass on to others, leading to a restriction of methods and the possible formation of entrenched communities.
This thesis aims to deploy and develop a canine training establishment that will better enable the inclusion of humanistic learning theories, encourage the exercise of reflective practice, and permit the use of an educational exchange model that will assist in the transference of tacit knowledge.
