Abstract
In response to ICIA’s theme so far… this atmospheric series of photographs explored how geography, personal memory and social history intersect. In the tradition of the seascape, the images depicted the North Sea, where most of the North’s un-mined coal still resides. The photographs were created using image-making equipment available to all of us in everyday life; the low resolution mobile phone camera. Enlarged beyond clear definition, the images became hazy, impressionistic, glowing with colour. Printed on a surface that appears to be watercolour paper, they suggested the more abstract works of Turner.
