Abstract

Glass that has the natural world as its inspiration is the theme by 27 members of the Contemporary Glass Society. The CGS have organised the event with Pyramid Gallery and selected the artists from an initial application of 88 entrants

The title of this exhibition ‘Ripples’ can be interpreted as the process of the evolution of the natural world, or a product of that process. Entrants to the selection process were invited to submit glass artworks that fitted the theme ‘Ripples: Glass inspired by Nature’ and that had been created during the 12 months prior to september 2014. The selection panel considered not only factors such as interpretation of the theme, quality, innovation, and artistic flair, but also wanted to ensure that the exhibition included a great variety of techniques and styles. Many very good pieces of work deserved to be included in this show, but could not be selected purely due to space constraints or due to the number of artworks that could be practically handled by the gallery.
