Biography:
Stephen is currently a Reader in Social Science at the University of Sunderland. He has held a number of principal, senior lecturer and lecturer posts in criminology, social work and sociology. Stephen graduated in 2006 with a doctorate in Sociology and Criminology at Newcastle University. His Ph.D. developed a social model of specific learning difficulties in an attempt to understand the impact that disabling barriers have within education, employment and the criminal justice system. Previously, he studied at Northumbria University and graduated with a B.Sc. (Hons) in Criminology and a M.Sc. in Social Research. In practice, Stephen has served in the military where he has worked for the United Nations in Africa for the prevention of genocide as well as working as a practitioner in dementia clinics. Stephen is a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy, a member of the British Society of Criminology and a member of the British Sociology Association (Medical Sociology Group).
