Dr. Samiullah Paracha is the Research and Development Specialist of the Creative Fuse North East team at the University of Sunderland, exploring how to stimulate and foster interdisciplinary, intersectoral innovative practices in the Creative, Digital, and IT sectors. He hails from Japan and has amassed over 20 years of experience in teaching, research, programme management, capacity-building, and policy development, whilst working with the UNO, JICA, governments, NPOs, and eminent universities in Europe, Asia & Africa.

Dr. Samiullah holds a Ph.D. and a Postdoc from the Faculty of Technology at the University of Sunderland. He has worked in research projects including the UN project Digital Peace; Technological Family of Huawei and Internet Matters, UK; and on the JICA’s International Co-Innovation Programmes such as PEACE & ABE, Japan. In the past 10 years, he has served both as Principal Investigator and as a member of interdisciplinary research teams on 30 externally funded international projects
Dr. Samiullah researches into designing and evaluating digital technologies such as intelligent virtual agents, ICT4D, and mixed reality experiences with children. He has over 60 graduate completions and 45 examinations across Japan. Dr. Samiullah has written over 70 publications for journals and conferences. His scholarly work, in peer-reviewed literature, includes policy briefs, book chapters, journal articles, and conference papers accompanied by Gold Medals (IIER), Silver Shields, Best Research Paper Awards (IEEE, IEEJ, IIER), First Prize Paper Awards (IEEE) and several Appreciation Awards from different countries.
Before joining Creative Fuse, Dr. Samiullah was head of PEN Academy at Progressive Education Network and JICA’s Innovations Lab at Kobe Institute of Computing. He is also actively engaged in knowledge exchange and external engagement, working with small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) and organizations, in African and Asian countries, particularly in the creative, digital, and IT sectors. His knowledge exchange and research activities focus on how to bridge the gap between academia and industry to address some of the underlying challenges in the developing world.
