Her prior experience as a business owner informs her scholarly focus on strategy and innovation as key levers of competitive advantage, and she develops practical tools to facilitate capacity building in these areas.
Her research investigates practice: particularly selling, as a mechanism for entrepreneurial learning and behaviour. She examines the ways in which selling functions as a trigger for entrepreneurial self-efficacy and development, with a specific focus on women’s entrepreneurial journeys. Her findings underscore the value of practice-based approaches to entrepreneurship, highlighting how embodied and experiential activities can advance both theoretical understanding and entrepreneurial competence.
In addition, Doyin engages with Global South contexts, where her scholarship has explored sustainability, religious entrepreneurship, and digitization as they unfold in diverse socio-economic environments. This body of work contributes to a more nuanced understanding of entrepreneurship beyond Western-centric perspectives.
As an educator, Doyin adopts a practice-led pedagogy that integrates theory and application, designing experiential learning environments that enhance student engagement and knowledge retention. In her role as an ACEE, she emphasizes the dynamic interplay between conceptual frameworks and real-world practice, enabling students to critically apply entrepreneurial theory within authentic contexts.
Doyin is an active member of the Practice and Impact Special Interest Group (SIG) for the Institute for Small Business and Entrepreneurship. She also serves on the editorial board of the International Journal of Entrepreneurship and Innovation.
