Dr Tim Paget is a Principal Lecturer in Pharmaceutical Microbiology in the Department of Pharmacy, Health and Well-being; he gained his PhD in 1987 on microbial/parasite biochemistry. After this he went on to complete a Wellcome funded postdoctoral post at Cardiff and during this time he also worked in the USA with Profs Lindmark and Jarroll both internationally renowned for their work on the biochemistry and physiology of Giardia. Since then he has worked as an academic in a number of institutions most recently before Sunderland he was Chair of Chemistry at Lehman College, City University of New York. During his career he has maintained his research interest in parasite physiology and his contribution to this area was highlighted when he was asked to organise the 65th meeting of the International Society for Protozoology held at the University of Kent at Canterbury, 2010. His research has also extended into the areas of microbial detection and pathogen control and this has lead to several industrial linked grants (with Smith and Nephew) and a large NEAT (DoH) grant.
