Dr David Nelson is a Senior Lecturer in the Department of Computing, Engineering and Technology. David has been at the University of Sunderland since 1999. He obtained his BSc (Hons) in Computing Science in 1992, and his PhD in Computing Science in 1998, both from the University of Newcastle upon Tyne in 1992. He previously worked at the University of Durham, firstly as a Research Assistant in the area of natural language databases, and then as Computing Officer for the Computer Science Department.
David is both a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy, as well as being a Member of the BCS with Chartered IT Professional and Chartered Engineer status. Since being at Sunderland David has chaired the British International Conference on Databases (BNCOD) in 2005, is a member of the BNCOD steering committee and has chaired the HE Academy Workshops on Teaching, Learning and Assessment of Databases on numerous occasions. David also participates in reach-out with external companies, having worked on Knowledge Transfer projects with Steptronik, OnePoint Systems, Profile Analysis and Orchid Software.
