Maria’s Degree and Postgraduate study are in Business Computing and Management of IT. She has carried out research in Human-Computer Interaction (Intelligent Control of mind interfaces). She has completed a 2 year Teaching Fellowship in e-Learning, gained the status of Fellow in the Higher Education Academy, has attended Certificates in Personal Coaching and Mentoring and she is a mentor of the University of Sunderland Mentoring Scheme. She is the Customised Award Scheme (CAS) Leader & admissions tutor, module leader for all the Independent Studies skills modules (UG Stage 1- 3), member of the Combined Subjects Programme (CSP) team.

Maria’s research interests are in employability and specifically investigating how graduates today are prepared to switch career if needed. She is particularly interested in assisting learners recognise that employability is about how HE develops them as critical, reflective, empowered learners and not to mistake employability with employment. She is also interested in the pedagogy of personalized learning; hence, her research involves developing learning activities in pedagogical settings and exploring different teaching approaches.
