Abstract

Abstract

Technology-enabled maintenance via sensors and the internet of things (IoT) tech-8 nologies is seen as the “new maintenance strategy”. The aim is to use these technologies to focus on 9 unnecessary breakdowns and increase levels of asset availability where the existence of a dedicated 10 team to maintain, or data on asset condition is limited, useless or full of noise. This paper presents 11 the integration of multiple sensing nodes within an automated laser cutting machine for monitoring 12 of critical components’ conditions with the aim of eliminating sudden breakdowns. The integrated 13 system introduces a centralized web-based platform for data collection and visualization from vari-14 ous sensors and provides an early failure detection mechanism based on specified set points with 15 alert mechanisms. The research highlights the carried-out stages for the identification of the appro-16 priate components and sensory devices for the development of efficient monitoring environment. 17
