Abstract
Abstract
Exhibition of four artworks in group exhibition inspired by Italo Calvino's seminal text.
Jeffrey Sarmiento's three wall panels depict the interconnected lines of canals, a spider web and scaffolding, each done in the expected colors: blue for the canals, white and black for the spider web, and industrial gray for the scaffolding. The panels are hung next to each other, but they are not part of a formal triptych. The point of the juxtaposition is to declare that the systems, both man-made and organic, share something in common: Variations on a theme, they all attempt to order the disordered.
The panels, like every piece in this show, are impeccably made: expect no less from Bullseye. But the panels are simple and single-thrust illustrations -- visual analogs for the real thing -- and they don't attempt to access that higher realm of metaphor and meaning from which all art springs. The craft artist seems most interested in the making, rather than the meaning of what is made.
