Abstract
A long-term display of works from the series Watchful Waiting, loaned by Johannah Churchill to Freeman Hospital as part of Newcastle Hospitals Charity's Arts Programme. Watchful Waiting is a series of portraits of NHS workers exploring compassion, suffering, and the relationship between patient and carer. The title takes its name from a medical term describing the careful observation of an illness or injury without immediate intervention - a deliberate act of attention that resonates with the considered practice of portraiture. The work has been on permanent display at Freeman Hospital since May 2022.
