Abstract

On 7 May 2021, the National Portrait Gallery announced the acquisition of all 100 Hold Still photographs into its permanent national collection, including Churchill's portrait Melanie, March 2020. The announcement was made by NPG Director Nicholas Cullinan during a visit by the then Duchess of Cambridge to the Gallery's archive to mark the launch of the Hold Still book. Melanie, March 2020 thus entered one of the world's most significant portrait collections, joining works spanning from the 1840s to the present day.
