Abstract

Churchill gave an illustrated talk to Hexham Photography Group on 18 October 2024, covering two interconnected strands of her photographic practice: her documentary portraits of NHS healthcare workers, including work from the Pandemic series and NHS Darkroom, and her commission for the Gaia Foundation's We Feed The UK project, documenting regenerative farmer Stuart Johnson at West Wharmley Farm near Hexham. The talk drew out the shared themes running across both bodies of work - care, community and belonging - exploring photography as a means of bearing witness to the labour of both healthcare workers and those working to restore the land.
