Abstract

The military conflict in the Gaza Strip has created a chain reaction of negative tourism impacts in the wider eastern Mediterranean region, and subsequently its hotel industry. Through dual nationwide research (N=400 each) in the two largest destinations in the region (Greece, Turkey), this study examines the chaordic formulation of the perspectives of the hotel managers in order to safeguard their enterprising resilience from the Gaza conflict impacts. The research employs fsQCA and Necessary Condition Analysis (NCA) to examine the antecedents of labour costs, pricing policies, competitiveness, innovation, IT competence, and willingness for further IT use. It finally generates four acceptable solutions for Greece (financial orientation; technology-oriented innovation; cost-driven competitiveness; technological focus) and two for Turkey (technology-oriented innovation; technological focus), while the latter two are common in both countries. The study contributes to the understanding of chaordic hotel decision-making and offers several suggestions related to hotel resilience.
