Abstract
Dr. Paul Dresser is Lecturer in Criminology and Programme Leader for MA Investigative Management at the University of Sunderland. Paul completed his doctorate in Criminology at Manchester Metropolitan University; his Ph. D – a qualitative exploration of Prevent police officers – is one of very few studies of its kind. The basis of his thesis coincides with his ongoing research interests which centre around evidenced-based analyses of counter-radicalisation with a specific focus on the UK Prevent Programme. Paul has presented his work at various conferences in the UK including the Critical Studies on Terrorism Conference, in 2017. Furthermore, Paul has been invited to discuss counter-terrorism on various external media platforms including: BBC Radio Newcastle, Sun FM, and Made in Tyne and Wear TV. More recently, alongside Detective Inspector Gary Kay (Northumbria Police), Paul has established the Northumbria Police / University of Sunderland Partnership; this innovative partnership offers University of Sunderland students the opportunity to deliver presentations on the aims and objectives of PREVENT to various professional institutions within the Northumbria Police area command. This unique partnership forms the basis of his talk today.
