Abstract

The initial stages of doctoral study have led to an exploration of decolonial and indigenous research approaches including methodologies, methods as well as ethical reflections. The consideration of concepts such as ‘two-eyed seeing’ drawing from the best of Indigenous and ‘Western’ research knowledge has allowed for a greater depth of thought around the application of research approaches. This has allowed for exploration beyond a ‘Eurocentric’ landscape considering research from a global perspective from yarning in Australia to a Talanoa which draws from Pacific knowledge and understanding. The use of storytelling as a research method whether this is oral or digital is an area which can be used to support people from racially minoritized or other marginalised communities to share their own experiences lived or otherwise.
Through this exploration of decolonial and indigenous research approaches the attendees will be encouraged to reflect and consider their own research standpoints as well as embracing those which they have previously not considered or not known of. This has also supported a personal journey of self-reflection and through the presentation attendees will be guided on this journey.
