Abstract
This non-competitive dance festival is always a joyful afternoon of dance, presented by Sunderland Empire Creative Learning and University of Sunderland.
Designed as a joyful celebration of inclusive performance, the festival offers participants of all school ages and abilities the opportunity to explore and express themselves through dance. The 2024 edition, themed "A Night At The Theatre," features choreographic works inspired by a variety of Musicals including Lion King, Mary Poppins, School of Rock and many more. Beyond artistic development, the event strengthens university-community relationships, fosters intergenerational collaboration, and enhances civic pride by making the performing arts accessible and participatory. This collaboration between the University and Sunderland Empire highlights how creative partnerships in higher education can generate meaningful cultural engagement and positive social outcomes in the wider community. The event welcomes 22 schools and over 200 children to perform their work.
