'Glass and Clay' Exhibition Washington DC 2013

Watkinson, Cate (2013) 'Glass and Clay' Exhibition Washington DC 2013. 'Glass and Clay', 1 Mar - 31 Mar 2013, Washington DC.

Item Type: Show/Exhibition

Abstract

The work in this show is based on the movements, rhythms and processes involved in weaving cloth. Many of my ancestors worked in the textile industry in the woollen mills of the north of England. The pieces pay homage to the labours involved and celebrate the processes of making, both of cloth and in my own chosen material, glass.

'Glass and Clay' is the latest initiative between Sunderland and Washington DC artists, facilitated by the Sister City Agreement between the two cities. 2013 will see a new dimension added creating be a tri-partite exhibition including artists from Seoul, South Korea another ‘partner in the Sister City’ Agreement with Washington DC.

Thirteen glassmakers and 5 four ceramicists involved with the University of Sunderland or working in the City will be exhibiting alongside the artists from Washington DC and artists from Seoul, South Korea.

There is a catalogue of the exhibition which will include all the artists from the 3 cities.
