Abstract
Commissioned by Durham Cathedral and Durham International Brass Festival for the 2013 Lindisfarne Gospels Exhibition, Book of Bells is a site-specific soundtrack/installation created for the Monk's Dormitory Library in Durham Cathedral.
The work explores the inter-relationship between music and words by juxtaposing digitally manipulated brass and bell recordings and an assemblage of extracts from the library's texts. The work thus invites visitors to participate in re-imagining and re-hearing ‘brass’.
