Abstract
This essay positions artist-photographer John Kippin's as an artist-researcher and teacher. It considers the value of photographic communities of practice, the significance of place and the value of the local in an international context. The essay is published to coincide with a major two-part retrospective of his work at Northern Gallery for Contemporary Art.
