Biography:
I am a lecturer, writer, curator and artist. I studied Fine Art at Goldsmiths College before being appointed Gallery Manager at the ICA in London.
I subsequently became a freelance curator and arts organiser, working extensively in the UK and abroad. In 1985 I moved to Newcastle to run the Arts Development Strategy at the Laing Art Gallery, where I initiated the Tyne International Exhibition of Contemporary Art.
For the last 20 years I have worked in education and I am currently Professor of Visual Art at the University of Sunderland as well as Principle Investigator for WALK (Walking, Art, Landskip and Knowledge). WALK is an interdisciplinary research centre at the University of Sunderland (UoS), looking at how we creatively engage with the world as we walk through it.
