Professor Monika Foster is the Head of School, Business and Management. Her previous roles included Dean of the School of Business and Enterprise at the University of the West of Scotland and Associate Professor and Director of Learning and Teaching at Edinburgh Napier Business School.

Monika is a National Teaching Fellow. She has worked in Business Schools and higher education in the UK, Europe and Far East for over 30 years. Monika has successfully led strategic initiatives to enhance the student experience including enhanced transitions for mature and international student, and student-centred, work based learning solutions for all undergraduate students. Monika has championed innovation on programmes of study working with students as co-creators of the curriculum, and the development of Executive Education and CPD with businesses. Monika was responsible for learning, teaching and assessment strategy, including international partnerships and quality assurance (Europe (Poland, Germany, Russia, Holland), Hong Kong, China, Malaysia, Myanmar, Singapore).
Monika’s external profile includes the award of Principal Fellow of the Higher Education Academy, and advisory role with HEA to develop a national Framework for Internationalisation, and a title of Visiting Professor from Shandong University of Finance, People’s Republic of China. She is a Certified Business and Management Educator (CMBE) with Chartered ABS, with a strong CPD profile including an award of Leaders in Learning and Teaching from Chartered ABS.
Monika’s research interests lie in cross-cultural management, employability, internationalization of higher education, intercultural aspects, and leadership and change management. Furthermore, her research interests lie in international mobility, study destination choices and internationalisation of the curriculum. Monika has led a number of international, cross-institutional and interdisciplinary projects to scope and design mechanisms for assisting students with the transitions. Monika has published her research internationally and in the UK. She is an Editor for a selection of academic journals. She is currently leading a Scoping Study for QAA Enhancement Theme Transitions: an exploration of support mechanisms for international students. Her recent research includes leading a cross-university qualitative research study on tools, strategies and guidelines in Internationalisation of the Curriculum; and a Santander funded research project. Monika is currently working on a book commissioned by Routledge on Building Intercultural Learner Relationships: Towards a critical pedagogy for higher education in a multicultural globalising world publihsed in 2021.
