Tales of the Tyne exhibition

Ley, Marcia (2019) Tales of the Tyne exhibition. Gateshead Library Gallery, 12 Oct 2018-13 Jan 2019, Gateshead UK.

Item Type: Show/Exhibition

Abstract

An Exhibition by Marcia Ley and Mark Todman of Paintings, Prints , and Silks
Marcia Ley exhibition background.
The images made for this exhibition are largely inspired by her cycle ride to work along river towpaths where the seemingly familiar changes every day.
Her paintings, and particularly her sense of colour, are often a reflection of her Mediterranean background. The silk paintings are a development of works she first began when making scarves at the Northern Centre for Cancer Care with patients and their carers. She discovered that this beautiful process was a way of using colour and texture that suited her way of understanding the world through painting.
Mark Todman background
The paintings in the exhibition are the result of walking and cycling trips taken in the last few years, exploring parts of the Tyne and the adjacent area. He is drawn to those places that are often overlooked, neglected or passed by with barely a glance, but which still form a vital backdrop to our everyday lives.
