Abstract

This short paper concentrated on the ontological and morphological shifts and turns that contemporary documentary photography sustained in the process of its accommodation in the art institution at the end of the twentieth century. The British photographic scene in which documentary photography had a rather particular history, one marked by a blend of imported influences, left liberal drives, neoliberal politics and strategies of state patronage as well as theoretical determinism and institutional agendas, was examined as a case study.
