Abstract
In 2018, the University of Sunderland’s Liaison Librarian Team adopted a relationship‑management approach to enhance faculty engagement and align more closely with institutional priorities. This article outlines the development programme undertaken to support this shift, including a structured skills audit and a comprehensive training plan centered on communication, resilience, change management, collaboration, and time management. Delivered through a blend of peer learning, external expertise, internal training, and self‑directed study, the programme strengthened strategic engagement practices and fostered greater team cohesion. The article reflects on key successes—such as the adoption of shared values, action planning tools, and enhanced cross‑team collaboration—while also acknowledging ongoing challenges linked to capacity, resources, and developing advanced relationship‑building skills. It concludes that the development programme created a strong foundation for sustainable relationship management, while highlighting the need for continued reflection and professional growth as the team embeds this approach into practice.
