Abstract

Yann, Medical Engineering Apprentice is a portrait by Johannah Churchill, shortlisted for Portrait of Britain Vol 7 and published in the accompanying book by Bluecoat Press. The image is drawn from Churchill's ongoing participatory research project NHS Darkroom, a collaboration with Newcastle Hospitals Charity in which staff from Newcastle Hospitals take part in portrait sessions and darkroom workshops. The portrait depicts Yann Kimpouni, a medical engineering apprentice at Newcastle Hospitals.

Portrait of Britain, run by the British Journal of Photography, is one of the UK's largest photography awards, celebrating the diversity of contemporary British life. Selected images are exhibited nationwide on digital screens across public spaces and published in an annual book.
