Abstract

»Through a Soldiers Eyes«

A rich animation bringing the works of various soldiers and artists from WW1 and WW2 to life. The opening sequence brings to life A key painting 'Under Hells Flames' The battle of the Hooge August 1915 and is supported with other artistic studies.

This piece was originally a 5 minute projection mapped piece but at the last moment the client altered the timings of the audio and the animation is driven by 12 minutes of narration.

Produced over several months, the animation was projected into Bishop Auckland museum to commemorate the servicemen of the last century while also cenebrating diversity within the armed forced.

This formed a starting point to build a historical and cultural portfolio of works including work for national geographic and other historical pieces celebrating the rich history of the region.

The purpose of the piece was to bring soldiers and artists work to life and to showcase these rich artefacts and significant history of the region whilst maintaining a strong narrative. The content comprises 2d, 3d and experimental mapping techniques.

In the piece on show, McQuillan is interested in the historical nature and storytelling via animation and projection. Collectively they are immersive tools that go hand in hand to tell and share visually informative and engaging stories for all audiences.
