Abstract

This print was commissioned by High Bridge Works as part of their renovation to commemorate the history of the original owners of the site R.Wards & Sons Printworks

High Bridge Works asked me to design bespoke letterpress artworks, which pay homage to the heritage and the original R.Wards & Sons printworks that first occupied the building from 1903.

The final print was an A2 piece designed using original typesetting methods and layout based on the historic layout of the North East Pocket Book, which was their most iconic printed item. Surrounding this are the shadows of hundreds of other printed wood block letters to commemorate all the millions of letters and words printed over the years that fade into the background. The piece was printed on a Little John Cylinder Press using a large range of wooden poster-type blocks.
