Abstract

Local combines a photographic narrative by John Kippin
with a significant essay by political analyst Dr. Henry
Kippin. The perception and scope of local government is explored
together with an investigation of the relationship with
central government. Why, as a nation, have we lost faith with our local
politicians? And why do we generally hold them in such
low esteem? Local looks at the possibility of a realignment of local
politics and develops a visual rhetoric of the local.
Cumbria County Council is the subject of this narrative
which was photographed and developed during an artist-
in-residence programme during 2008.
