John Paul (originally from Birmingham) graduated from the University of Sunderland in 1996 and completed his Masters in 1999, with his thesis on Doctor Who. Since 1997, he has worked in various capacities at the university including academic tutor, research administrator, lecturer and more recently, team leader. He is currently Principal Lecturer for Quality Assurance and Enhancement within the Faculty of Arts, Design & Media. In 2006 he achieved a life-time ambition and appeared in three episodes of Doctor Who.
