Abstract

A presentation to Faculty colleagues on the first two studies of my PhD thesis- "Teaching Games for Understanding: Teachers' Socialisation, Perceptions and Interpretations". Within the presentation Teaching Games for Understanding (TGfU) and the theoretical underpinning framework, Occupational Socialisation Theory, were introduced and their application to research studies with in-service secondary PE teachers in the North of England. Study 1 explored in-service teachers' acculturation, professional socialisation and organisational socialisation including barriers and facilitators to implementing TGfU. Study 2 provided a CPD course to in-service teachers as part of a 6-week scheme of work utilising focus groups and pre- post- questionnaires to evaluate the success of the course. The study explored overcoming the barriers to implementing TGfU.
