Abstract
In July 2021 I was fortunate to read Laura Davies’ blog entitled, ‘The Secret Life of PE Teachers: Exercise, eating & (un)healthy habits.’ This blog resonated very strongly with my own experiences as a PE student and as a teacher. Most notably as I never fit into the box that was the correct ‘look’ of a PE teacher, or as Laura wrote ‘the epitome of health, fitness and wellbeing’. I think there are numerous reasons why this was the case, but I don’t want to wax poetically about my entire life (otherwise we might be here all day); instead, I wanted to focus on one specific reason…. that of being a disabled teacher.
This blog explores the stereotypical look of a PE teacher, what it means to be a disabled PE teacher and ways that we can support current and future disabled PE teachers.
