Abstract
Responsible management educators continue to debate whether business schools are providing students with the learning they require in order to address ethics and sustainability issues. Experiential Learning can offer rich opportunities for improving student learning and engagement and develop employability skills such as team working, leadership, originality of thought and creativity within students. This chapter examines the evolution of management education from teaching pure theoretical approaches to management learning toward practice based, applied educational experiences. It presents the case for ‘Experiential Learning for Responsible Management Education’ arguing that education for sustainability, ethics and responsibility requires a more ‘hands on’ experiential approach to learning and teaching. It provides a short example of a formally curriculum embedded approach to experiential learning, an externally led initiative and how informal opportunities which arise through research and partnering activities can be used to enhance students learning experiences. It concludes that the future of responsible management education is experiential in nature.
