Abstract

For the exhibition Les Avatars De l'intelligence, Intersculpt 2025 Chateau de Courcelles Metz, I made, 3 new 3d prints, two were made out of white PLA fabricated in the University of Sunderland Priestman Building and at Fablab. The new works were built on my previous Digital Assemblage techniques, applying AI to my drawings to generate 3d Models and laterly through my extensive investigation of AI Text to 3D during the summer of 2025, out of which, came the third 3d full colour print , printed in The University of Sunderland Computing Department, Called:

A pair of symbolic parallel wheels connected by an axel out of 2 perfect iced ring donut's with sprinkles connected by a hotdog with mustard on.

I am fascinated by the application of Ai to sculpture particularly in relation to assemblage and 3d printing. I think the use of Ai tools offered by sites such as Tencent, Meshy and Tripo Ai will create great demand for 3d printing due to Ai’s ability to create 3d files easily from only image or text.

In Metz I also displayed 24 new 2d prints based on works generated through this prompt text to 3d AI, and 3 new videos of Text to AI generated 3d Objects, Alongside 2 Existing Paintings and 2 Older 3d Prints. For the Intersculpt 2025 Chateau de Courcelles conference I made a presentation titled Bad Ai 2.0, featuring 80 new image to Ai generated 3d sculptures. James Hutchinson lives in Sunderland & works as a Multimedia Artist. He is currently the Lead Teacher for the MA Fine art Pathway for the MA Visual Practice Programme. He is BA Fine Art Programme Leader & a second supervisor of PHDs at The University of Sunderland. He has taught as a lecturer in Fine Art at University of Sunderland since the year 2000 and was included in REF 21.
