Embedding EDI within an Undergraduate Nursing Programme: An LGBTQ+ perspective.

Lee, Matthew (2022) Embedding EDI within an Undergraduate Nursing Programme: An LGBTQ+ perspective. In: Queer Voices – The University of Sunderland’s 2nd Annual LGBTQI+ Multidisciplinary Research Conference, 21st June 2022, University of Sunderland - Online.

Item Type: Conference or Workshop Item (Speech)

Abstract

Over the past year, the LGBTQI+ global community has faced increased attack on their rights. Whilst in many ways, the UK is taking steps to combat discrimination and promote inclusivity, recent changes to legislation and contentious political discourse demonstrate an ongoing attempt to fracture the community. During this time, there has been an increase in LGBTQI+ related commentary. However, it is rare that the discourse facilitated and promoted in mainstream media comes directly from those with lived experience. Therefore, this conference is an opportunity for researchers across the University to share the real-life experiences of LGBTQI+ people and raise queer voices.
