Abstract
A career in academia does not always follow a linear path. Having been a secondary school teacher and leader for 14 years, Dr Elizabeth Hidson stepped out of school and back into university in her 40s, essentially starting from scratch first as a doctoral student, then contract research assistant, early career researcher and brand-new member of faculty in a teaching-intensive university. In this talk, Elizabeth will reflect on the stages of this journey, lessons learnt and professional dilemmas in carving a career as an academic. This opportunity for reflection and discussion will be useful to others on an academic career trajectory.
