Abstract
Three sound corridors with changing sound installations to explore sound as a sculptural intervention in public space. The "EIGENKLANG¬MODULATION" project presented here aims to bring about a subtly altered spatial experience by manipulating and modifying field recordings recorded in the transit-corridor "laboratorium" of the Heinrich-Heine-Allee underground station and the subsequent back-projection of selected, modulated sounds into this very space. Familiar, unfamiliar, never before heard or even inaudible sounds, recorded on site at different times and in partly inaccessible areas, form the raw material of the installation. The sounds, recorded through various modifications using different technologies, are modulated experimentally. By emphasising or shifting their spatial, material, associative characteristics and by subsequently rearranging the sounds, a new perception of space is made possible. The sonicated space is superimposed in its functional one-dimensionality and opens up for a - poetic, fictional, associative or even structural - way of reading. The 3ModelRooms sound archive founded in the course of this project is continuously supplemented by new sound material and thus becomes a rich resource for future sound collages.
