Abstract
Düsseldorf. Especially in the cold season, we love stories and films that allow us to go on eventful journeys despite uncomfortable weather.
From 21 October 2022 to 31 January 2023, this is precisely what a cross-space aural cinema will offer at the Heinrich-Heine-Allee art underground station. With the sound installation "Falschlicht-Projektionen" (false light projections), visual artist Ralf Brög and composer Marcus Schmickler will take passengers on the Wehrhahn line into different auditory levels. With music, language and sounds, they design film worlds that acoustically pick up speed in the 3ModellRäumen respectively the three entrances of the Heinrich-Heine-Allee station. All three locations, the "Auditorium", the "Laboratory" and the "Theatre", will be operated via the permanently installed high-quality sound systems of the 3Modell rooms.
For example, the passenger on the escalator at Königsallee ("Auditorium") picks up a whiff of the science fiction series "Tales from the Loop" or recognises the soundtrack of the cinema film "Dune". The total of 19 re-produced film scores come from the genres of science fiction, animation, fantasy and super natural, complemented by the film biographies "Imitation Game" and "The Discovery of Infinity", which offer a high recognition value not only for cineastes.
In the "Laboratory" underground entrance, the cinema atmosphere is condensed with the help of cinematic sound collages, so-called Foleys. And in the "Theatre" model room, visitors can expect a dialogue version of the audio description of the animated film "Soul", which can usually be switched on for the visually impaired.
In the spirit of quantum mechanics , which is an important source of inspiration for the underlying narrative of many of the selected films, "Falschlicht-Projektionen" dissolves spatial and temporal boundaries of auditory figures so that they seem to communicate with each other in the underground station. Music, sounds, a stringent narrative: the passengers and passers-by are listeners and acoustic actors at the same time, the boundaries between everyday life and art are also blurred: a synaesthetic cinematic experience all along the line!
