Abstract
This presentation is based on Chapter 7 written for Leask (2023) Pathways to Professorship. It is about academics selecting the digital tools for their career journey. It starts off looking at the essential tools for organising your personal research and scholarly activity, digital profile and networks. It then moves on to communicating and collaborating as you expand your focus to the wider academic community. It looks at digital tools for writing and research as well as platforms to disseminate, attract interest in your work and develop your academic profile. The aim is to present and discuss digital tools and how, when and why you might use them as well as reflect on how the investment of time and energy will be useful to your career. Although common software brands or names of applications may be mentioned, this is to help you look at the type of software or technology rather than necessarily personally endorsing specific products.
