Photography as an artistic medium is now firmly anchored and established in the art world. More and more artists are working with photography - either exclusively or as a medium alongside painting, drawing or sculpture. However, photography has long since ceased to be regarded as a representation of reality in the art world. Rather, it is experimented with, subjectivised, decoded, alienated, cut up, stitched, overexposed, overpainted, digitally alienated. The image no longer plays a major role, it is merely a reminiscence and reference to what photography once was, what task it once had. The documentary still has its validity. But where it leaves this image-like quality, it is rethought. On the other hand, painting behaves mimetically towards photography, pretends to.
