Abstract
The Three Spirits is a powerful, purely dance-based retelling of A Christmas Carol, inspired by the transformative journey of Ebenezer Scrooge through the eyes of the Ghosts of Christmas Past, Present, and Yet to Come. Stripping away spoken dialogue, this evocative piece uses movement alone to convey the emotional depth, moral awakening, and timeless message of Dickens’ classic tale. Created specifically for Beamish Museum’s Masonic Hall, The Three Spirits immerses audiences in a visually rich and emotionally resonant experience, blending historical atmosphere with contemporary choreography. Premiering in 2012 as part of Beamish’s annual Christmas Celebrations, this production ran until Dec 2019. The collaboration reflects a continued commitment to reimagining classic stories through inclusive, accessible, and innovative performance.
Choreographed by Rachel Emms and Sarah Riach
