Abstract
Wheeler’s contribution to Nomadic.0910 was to curate and install the major exhibition of Nomadic “MACROVISÕES”. The exhibition explored molecular biology through the eyes of contemporary artists and designers. It included Wheeler’s experimental illustration which took as inspiration the scientific achievements of Max Perutz, one of the founding fathers of Molecular Biology. Wheeler’s illustration explored Perutz comments about the “rock and roll” molecule, describing the dynamic movements of haemoglobin. The exhibition was housed in the University of Porto’s Reitoria, an important Science /Art venue in Porto, Portugal. Additionally, Wheeler presented a paper at the opening conference of Nomadic on 17th September 2009 – The paper, Tracing the Invisible highlighted themes presented in the exhibition and expanded upon the way designers and visual communicators impact public perception and understanding of complex scientific ideas.
